What the countdown timer does
The countdown timer calculates the exact time remaining between now and any future date you specify — shown as days, hours, minutes, and seconds updating every second. Set an event name and target date, and the timer counts down continuously. A shareable link encodes your event and date so you can bookmark it, send it to team members, or embed it in a note.
Setting up your countdown
Enter an event name in the first field — this appears as the label above the countdown digits. Select a target date and time using the date picker. The countdown starts immediately. The progress bar shows what percentage of the total time between "now when you set the timer" and the target date has elapsed — useful for seeing at a glance whether you are early or late in your runway.
The shareable link
The "Shareable link" section at the bottom shows a URL that encodes your event name and target date as URL parameters. Copy this link and anyone who opens it sees the same countdown to the same moment in time. Use cases: share a product launch countdown with your team in Slack, add a "days until go-live" countdown to a project doc, send a deadline reminder to a client.
Quick presets
The preset buttons set common countdowns instantly: New Year's countdown, 1 week, 30 days, 100 days, and 1 year from today. These are useful starting points — click a preset and the timer immediately shows the countdown to that moment. You can then adjust the date if needed.
Use cases
Product and project management: count down to launch day, sprint end, or milestone delivery. The timer creates gentle urgency and keeps the deadline visible. Personal milestones: countdown to a trip, a birthday, a wedding, or a personal goal deadline. Fitness challenges: count down to a race, a transformation challenge end date, or a check-in date you have committed to publicly. Academic deadlines: dissertation submission, exam date, application deadline — having the exact number of days, hours, and minutes visible is more useful than a date on a calendar.
The psychology of deadlines
Research in behavioural economics consistently shows that visual countdown timers increase action and reduce procrastination by making abstract future deadlines concrete and present. The tick of seconds in the live counter communicates that time is genuinely passing in a way that a date written in a planner does not. This is why countdown timers are effective both for personal motivation and for creating urgency in commercial contexts.
