What the table generator does

The table generator provides a spreadsheet-style grid where you can enter data visually, add and remove rows and columns, set column alignment, and export the table in three formats: Markdown pipe table syntax, HTML table markup, or CSV data. It eliminates the need to manually write and count pipe characters in Markdown tables or type repetitive HTML table tags.

Editing the grid

Click any cell to edit it. The top row is the header row — column names entered here become the table headers in all export formats. Press Tab to move to the next cell. Use the "+ Column" and "+ Row" buttons to expand the table. The "− Row" button removes the last data row. The × button in the header column area removes the last column. All changes update the output in real time.

Column alignment

Click the alignment button (the arrow icon) in any header cell to cycle through left, centre, and right alignment for that column. In Markdown output, alignment is indicated by colons in the separator row: :--- for left, :---: for centre, ---: for right. In HTML output, alignment is applied as inline style attributes. Alignment has no effect in CSV output. Numeric columns (prices, quantities, percentages) are typically right-aligned; text columns are left-aligned.

Markdown pipe table syntax

Markdown tables consist of a header row, a separator row with optional alignment colons, and data rows. Every row starts and ends with a pipe character (|), and columns are separated by pipes. The separator row must have at least three hyphens per column (---). The generator produces correctly formatted Markdown that renders on GitHub, GitLab, Notion, Obsidian, and all GFM-compatible renderers.

HTML table output

The HTML output produces clean, semantic table markup with thead and tbody sections. Header cells use th elements in the thead. Data cells use td elements in the tbody. Alignment is applied as text-align style attributes when enabled. The output is ready to paste into any HTML page or template without modification.

CSV output

The CSV output includes the header row followed by data rows, with values properly quoted where necessary (fields containing commas, quotes, or line breaks are wrapped in double-quotes). The CSV output can be imported into Excel, Google Sheets, or any database tool that accepts CSV input.
